Rumo from Ramstein

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rumo von Ramstein was abbot of the St. Gallen monastery from 1274 to 1281.

The monk Rumo was a member of the noble family of the Lords of Ramstein . In the monastery of St. Gallen he was under his abbot Berchtold von Falkenstein (1244-1272) chamberlain, sexton and dean until he was 1274 after the death of Heinrich III. von Wartenberg (1272–1274), Berthold's immediate successor, was elected abbot against Ulrich VII. von Güttingen (1272–1277). After Ulrich's death, Rumo found general recognition. He organized an economic sell-out of the abbey, disputes with the Appenzell monastery subjects and the monastery bailiff aggravated the situation, so that Rumo resigned in 1281 and was compensated for an annual pension of 100 marks. The document dated January 15, 1282, stating the amount and origin of the pension and which is preserved in the St. Gallen monastery archives , is the earliest documentary mention of Appenzell cheese , as the abbot from Gais annually has sixty cheeses worth sixty each 8 denarii were to be delivered. Rumo died sometime between 1297 and 1303.
