Rumonge is a city in the south of the central African state Burundi and is located on the east bank of Lake Tanganyika . Since March 26, 2015, it has been the capital of the newly founded province of Rumonge . In 2008 it had 35,931 inhabitants. 109,143 people lived in the district of the same name ( Commune ). The main source of income in the Rumonge district is fishing, in which 45% of the population work (as of 2005).

There is a hospital built in 1994 and several health centers.

A nearby attraction is a species-rich jungle on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Kigwena ( Réserve naturelle forestière de Kigwena , approx. 15 km south of Rumonge). The forest, which has been protected since 1952, has shrunk from 2000 ha in 1952 to 500 ha in 2000.
