Rungna , also called Rungra , is an island in Taedong-gang in North Korea . Like the island of Yanggak further south , it belongs to the Chung-guyŏk district of the North Korean capital Pyongyang .

The small island is connected to the mainland to the north of Taedong-gang and the Taedonggang-guyŏk district to the south of the river by Rungna Bridge and Chongnyu Bridge . It extends over an area of ​​1.3 square kilometers.

The May Day Stadium is located on Rungna and is one of the largest stadiums in the world with a capacity of 150,000 .

Between the Chongnyu Bridge and Rungnado bridge extends over an area of about 1,500 square meters of Rungrado park with a Arboretum , a topiary -Garten and a zoo. There is also the Rungrado waterworks, which was built by the Japanese around 1900 as the first modern water supply system in Pyongyang . Water from the Taedong Gang was purified there and pumped into a sump on Moran Hill .

In July 2012, Kim Jong-un opened the Volkspark Rungna , an amusement park with a dolphinarium , swimming pool, sports areas, mini golf course and various rides .

The mountain cherry trees and Manchurian fir trees on the island are listed under the natural landmarks of North Korea with the sort number 1.
