Ruprecht Ziegler

Ruprecht Ziegler (born May 8, 1945 in Waiern , Carinthia) is an Austrian ancient historian .

Ruprecht Ziegler completed his Matura in Klagenfurt and studied history, Latin philology and geography in Cologne. From 1974 to 1991 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Düsseldorf . In 1976 he received his doctorate as a student of Dietmar Kienast in Düsseldorf. In 1990 he also received his habilitation there, for which he was awarded the Friends and Supporters Prize of the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf in 1992. In 1991/92 he taught as a visiting professor for ancient history at the University of Klagenfurt . From 1992 to 1995 he was again employed as a research assistant in Düsseldorf. From 1995 until his retirement in 2010, Ziegler taught as a professor of ancient history at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Essen . In 1998 he turned down a call to the University of Klagenfurt.

His research interests include numismatics , epigraphy , economic history, the history of religion and the history of the provinces of the Roman Empire.
