Roselle , Latin Rusellae , Etruscan Rusel , is an ancient city on the Ombrone in Tuscany , about 8 km northeast of Grosseto . The place below the hill is now part of Grosseto.

history

Rusel, an Etruscan city founding and a member of the Twelve Cities Association , was situated on a hill with two peaks, the higher of which was 194 m above sea level. 294 BC Chr. The city was by the Romans stormed. 205 BC Chr. Supplied the Roman city now Rusellae grain and timber for Scipio's fleet. Under Augustus Rusellae became a Roman colonia . The place later fell into disrepair, but was a bishopric until the 12th century . In 1138 the place was abandoned.
