The Ombrone (also called Ombrone grossetano and Ombrone senese ) is a river in Tuscany , Italy . It crosses the provinces of Siena and Grosseto from north to south.

It rises northeast of Siena near San Gusmè (part of the town of Castelnuovo Berardenga ) and flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea after 157 km . Its catchment area covers 3,494 km², its main tributaries are Arbia , Crevole , Lanzo , Merse and Orcia . It flows through the towns of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Rapolano Terme , Asciano , Buonconvento , Murlo , Montalcino , Civitella Paganico , Cinigiano , Campagnatico , Scansano and Grosseto .
