The Russell Investment Group is a global investment and advisory firm based in Seattle , Washington State , USA .

The group of companies has offices in New York , London , Tokyo , Hong Kong , Paris , Sydney and Singapore . The group also has offices in Amsterdam , Toronto , San Francisco , Melbourne , Auckland and Johannesburg .

The group of companies is known for the publication of numerous stock indices , including the globally respected Russell 2000 small cap index. Russell Investment Group has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange since 2014 . The company advises clients in 44 countries and manages around 320 investment funds , 85 of them in Europe.

Russell works for approximately 2,800 institutional clients including pension funds , charities, foundations , banks and other financial services providers. The company advises international corporations on the investment of their pension assets, which in 2006 totaled almost 2,000 billion euros.

Its headquarters are at the Russell Investments Center in Seattle, Washington.

Takeover by the London Stock Exchange

On June 26, 2014, the London Stock Exchange announced the takeover of the group of companies. The purchase price is 2.7 billion US dollars and is financed through a capital increase with a volume of 1.6 billion US dollars and through existing and new loans.

In October 2015, the London Stock Exchange announced that it would sell the Russell Investment Group again. The buyer is private equity firm TA Associates, which will pay $ 1.2 billion.
