Russell Teibert (born December 22, 1992 in Niagara Falls ) is a Canadian football player .

Club career

Teibert was for a number of youth teams in the youth football from Ontario active before briefly in the summer of 2008 for the youth academy of Toronto FC played and in the September 2008 residency program of the Vancouver Whitecaps was taken. He played with the residency team in the USL PDL in 2009 and 2010 and took part in a number of international tournaments and training camps in the USA, Germany, Spain and Japan. The midfielder made his professional league debut on July 31, 2010 in the short-lived USSF Division 2 Professional League against the Carolina RailHawks .

The Whitecaps moved up to the 2011 season in Major League Soccer and Teibert was added to the MLS squad on March 17, 2011. As a homegrown player, he signed a Generation Adidas contract with the MLS. As a result, his salary, which is also higher than usual developmental contracts , does not count towards the salary cap and Teibert is automatically protected against expansion drafts . He made his MLS debut at the start of the season in a 4-2 win against Toronto.

National team

Teibert, who was named Canada's U-17 Footballer of the Year in 2008 and 2009, has been part of the Canadian junior squad since November 2008. In 2009 he led the Canadian U-17 team at the CONCACAF U-17 championship as captain and scored the Canadian goal with a penalty in the first group game in a 1-1 draw against Honduras. Due to defeats against the USA and Cuba in the following two games, qualification for the U-17 World Cup 2009 in Nigeria was missed. Teibert has been part of the U-20 squad since 2010 and failed with the team at the CONCACAF U-20 championship in 2011 due to a 3-0 defeat in the quarter-finals against Mexico in qualifying for the 2011 World Junior Championship in Colombia.

In August 2012, Teibert first came to the Canadian senior team in the game against Trinidad and Tobago . In 2013 he took part with the Canadian team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup , in which his team was eliminated in the preliminary round. To date, Teibert has completed ten international matches for Canada.
