Russian Mission is a location in Alaska .
The city with 312 inhabitants is located on the right bank of the Yukon River . Its name is derived from the first mission station of the Russian Orthodox Church in Alaska, founded in 1851 . In the Eskimos language the place was called Ikogmyut. The name Russian Mission caught on around 1900. In 1970 the place received city rights.
