Ruth Currier

Ruth Currier (born January 4, 1926 in Ashland , Ohio , † October 4, 2011 in Brooklyn , New York ) was an American dancer, choreographer and dance teacher.

After studying with José Limón and Doris Humphrey , Currier became a member of the José Limón Dance Company in 1949. She stayed with this ensemble as a solo dancer for two decades. After the death of the dance director Limón in 1972, she took over the management of the dance company as director until 1978. During this time she expanded the repertoire with further choreographies and pieces.

After retiring in 1978, she devoted herself to the Limón Institute and her own Ruth Currier Dance Studio . She also taught at numerous international institutes.

Currier was divorced childless.
