Ruth Lüthi (born September 14, 1947 in Grenchen ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ) and former State Councilor of the Canton of Friborg .

Ruth Lüthi was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Friborg in 1988. In 1991 she became the Freiburg State Councilor and took over the Department of Health and Social Affairs. She was a member of the State Council for 15 years. In the Federal Council election in 2002 , she ran unsuccessfully to succeed Ruth Dreifuss .

From 1999 to 2007 Ruth Lüthi was a member of the Bank Council of the Swiss National Bank , and since 2003 has been Vice President. In 2007 the Federal Council appointed her President of the Federal AHV / IV Commission, which advises the Federal Council on questions relating to old-age and survivors' insurance and disability insurance .
