Ruth Sacks

Ruth Sacks (born September 27, 1977 in Port Elizabeth ) is a South African artist who mainly works in the field of installation art and performances .

Life

Sacks graduated in 2007 at the University of Cape Town in Cape Town with a Masters in Fine Arts from. She lives and works in Cape Town.

Work and way of working

In her work, Ruth Sacks uses fiction and history as stylistic devices in order to comment on and address the various contexts in which she works. All her work is based on a sensitivity to language and the associated possibility of translation errors. The installations, public interventions and texts she creates are subject to many influences. Ruth Sacks has already been represented in a large number of different exhibitions, including in the South African pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale and as part of the 1st Biennale for Architecture, Art and Landscape on the Canary Islands .

In 2011, Sacks took part in a program of the Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten (HISK) in Brussels as “ Artist in Residence ” .

Her works hang in the Museum for African Art in New York.
