Ruth Shonle Cavan

Ruth Shonle Cavan (born August 28, 1896 in Tuscola , † August 25, 1993 in De Kalb ) was an American sociologist and criminologist . She is considered a pioneer of criminology and is assigned to the Chicago School of Sociology .

After studying sociology at the University of Chicago , Cavan received his doctorate there in 1926 . For over twenty years she worked on joint research projects with Ernest Burgess . In 1947 she became a professor of sociology at Rockford College , Illinois . As an emerita , she moved to Northern Illinois University in 1962 , where she worked until 1977.
