The Rutland Brook Wildlife Sanctuary is a 1,710 acres (6.9 square kilometers ) comprehensive reserve at Petersham in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is administered by the Massachusetts Audubon Society .
Protected area
Together with neighboring protected areas, the Rutland Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, named after the river that gives it its name, forms one of the largest contiguous protected areas in central Massachusetts. Hemlocks and Weymouth pines characterize the landscape . There are 4 mi (6.4 km ) of hiking trails available to visitors, and education and training courses are offered through the Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary and Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center and Wildlife Sanctuary .
