The Rutronik Electronic Components GmbH is the third largest distributor of electronic components in Europe and eleventh largest worldwide. The range includes semiconductors , passive and electromechanical components as well as embedded boards , storage , displays and wireless products. This makes Rutronik one of the few real broadband distributors who represent components in all product areas equally. The independent and owner-managed company was founded in 1973. It employs around 1,850 people worldwide and is represented by more than 82 sales offices in Europe, Asia and America (as of 2019). In the 2018 financial year, Rutronik achieved sales of EUR 1 billion in the group. The company's headquarters are in Ispringen , Baden-Württemberg.

Company history

In 1973 the sales engineer Helmut Rudel founded the “Rutronik Passive Components” and “Silec Active Components” in a garage in Ispringen . From a “one-man operation”, the company grew to 70 employees by 1988. In 1991, Rutronik began to focus as a Europe-wide distributor with sales offices in France and the Czech Republic. Rutronik is now represented across the whole of Europe.

At the same time, Rutronik expanded its product range and entered the “display and systems” area in 1994 with the purchase of BIT-Electronic AG. Embedded boards and storage solutions were added in 1996 with the takeover of Discomp GmbH.

Company founder Helmut Rudel was at the top of the company until 2008 and since then has been involved in the management as president of the company. As his successor, his son Thomas Rudel took over the chairmanship of the management and the position of managing director sales.

In 2011, Rutronik positioned itself worldwide and founded Rutronik Asia HK Ltd. in Asia. and Rutronik Electronics SZ Ltd. Six branches in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan are available to customers there. Since 2014, the distributor has been addressing the Southeast Asian and Indian markets with a branch in Bangkok, Thailand and is represented in the USA with its subsidiary Rutronik Inc.

Rutronik's performance and service portfolio is divided into four components:

Under RUTRONIK EMBEDDED, Rutronik bundles specific product and service offers for embedded applications. RUTRONIK SMART combines sensors , wireless components, microcontrollers , power management and security solutions for devices within the Internet of Things (IoT). With the sales organization Rutronik24, Rutronik addresses small and medium-sized companies as well as large companies and OEMs with medium component requirements.

The target markets primarily include the automotive industry, medical electronics, industrial electronics, home appliances (household appliances) and the energy and lighting sectors.
