Rycroft painter
The Rycroft Painter was a vase painter from Attica in ancient Greece . Its in the last decade of the 6th century BC. Works in the black-figure style dated to the 3rd century BC fall into the late period of this style epoch.
The Rycroft painter is very close to the red-figure vase painting that was on the rise at the same time . He often shows figures in outline drawings. He is particularly fond of showing Dionysian scenes, but his best pictures are those that depict subjects with poise and dignity. He usually presents these on type A abdominal amphorae . He is close to the Priamos painter and Psiax , but his pictures do not have to hide behind those of the red-figure painters of the pioneer group . The Rycroft painter is thus one of the best vase painters of his style and of his time. The painter from Tarquinia RC 6847 was a stylistically close contemporary .
