Princess Rym Ali ( Arabic ريم علي, DMG Rīm ʿAlī ; * 1969 in Cairo as Rym Lakhdar Brahimi, Arabicريم الأخضر الإبراهيمي / Rīm al-Aḫḍar al-Ibrāhīmī ) is a former Algerian journalist and the wife of the Jordanian prince Ali bin al-Hussein .

Life

Rym is the daughter of the Algerian diplomat Lakhdar Brahimi . She grew up in Great Britain and Algeria and studied in France and the USA . She received her BA in Geography and an MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Paris . She studied political science and international relations at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and journalism at Columbia University .

On September 7, 2004, she married Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan. The couple has two children: Princess Jalila bint Ali (born September 16, 2005) and Prince Abdullah bin Ali (born March 19, 2007).

Before their wedding, Rym Ali worked as a journalist. She started at CNN in 1998 , among other things from 2001 to 2004 as a correspondent in Baghdad . She later worked for Dubai TV , Bloomberg Television , Radio Monte Carlo and United Press International , and finally for the BBC .

On August 14, 2006, Rym Ali founded the Jordan Media Institute (JMI), a journalist training facility that works with the University of Jordan .

Rym Ali has been a member of the Royal Jordanian Film Commission since 2007.

Awards

Rym Ali has received several journalism awards, including the Italian award for Best International Journalist at the 32nd Ischia International Journalism Awards Ceremony in July 2011 .

On September 20, 2011, Rym Ali was accepted as a knight in the French Legion of Honor .
