Ryton-on-Dunsmore is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Rugby in Warwickshire . It is southeast of Coventry . The 2001 census showed a population of 1672. The A45 trunk road runs through the town.

Garden Organic, the UK's premier non-profit organization for research into organic horticulture, has a 40,000 m² demonstration garden in town. The Ryton Pools Country Park landscaped garden is approximately 1.5 km southwest of the village.

Personalities

The Cyborg -Scientists Kevin Warwick grew up in the 1960s in the village and went to the local primary school. The Association of Chief Police Officers Vehicle Crime Intellegence Service is based on site.

The automobile plant

This Hillman Avenger sedan (1972) was built at the Ryton-on-Dunsmore plant.

An automobile factory was located northwest of the town for more than 60 years. The plant, which closed at the end of 2006, was located between the A45 (London Road) and the A423 (Oxford Road).

The factory was built in 1940 during the Second World War by the Rootes Group to manufacture aircraft engines and Bristol Blenheim bombers. The plant therefore also had an airfield. After the war it became the main factory of the Rootes group and a. Hillman car. When the company ran into economic difficulties in the 1960s, the American automobile manufacturer Chrysler took over the Rootes Group and with it the plant. Chrysler United Kingdom also had financial problems in the 1970s and in 1978 the plant was sold to Peugeot for the symbolic price of one US dollar .

Construction of the Peugeot 309 began on October 28, 1985 and the Peugeot 405 was added at the end of 1987 . When production of the 309 ceased in early 1993, the Peugeot 306 took its place and was the main model of the plant when the 405 was discontinued in autumn 1995. The second production line was revived in the summer of 1998 to build the Peugeot 206 . After the 306 was discontinued in spring 2001, only the 206 remained in Ryton-on-Dunsmore.

In April 2006, Peugeot decided to close the plant during 2007. In fact, the closure took place on December 12, 2006 and the property was sold to Trenport Investments Ltd. in March 2007 . sold as industrial site. The demolition of the plant began on November 12, 2007.
