São José da Coroa Grande , officially Município de São José da Coroa Grande , is a small community in Pernambuco , Brazil , with around 21,298 inhabitants (as of 2019) . It is located about 123 km south of Recife , the capital of Pernambucos. São José is located directly on the Atlantic Ocean and has a beach that is surrounded by a large reef for almost the entire length of the place. It provides excellent protection for bathers from shark attacks, which are not uncommon.
