São Martinho de Anta (sometimes also São Martinho de Antas ) is a small town and former municipality ( Freguesia ) in northern Portugal . It is known as the birthplace of the writer Miguel Torga .
history
Finds prove a prehistoric settlement. One of the most important finds in the community is one from 385 BC. Greek coin and a golden vessel dated from the Phoenicians . Today's place was probably created in the course of the settlement policy during and after the Reconquista . First city rights São Martinho de Anta awarded in 1208 by King Sancho I . In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the subsequent Miguelistenkrieg , the district was dissolved and has been a municipality of the Sabrosa district ever since.
On November 1, 1999, São Martinho de Anta was elevated to a small town ( Vila ).
On September 29, 2013 the parishes of São Martinho de Antas and Paradela de Guiães were merged to form the new parish União das Freguesias de São Martinho de Antas e Paradela de Guiães . São Martinho de Antas is the seat of this newly formed community.

São Martinho de Anta was the seat of a municipality of the same name ( Freguesia ) in the district ( Município ) of Sabrosa . The community had 903 inhabitants on an area of 16 km² (as of June 30, 2011).
