history

After an "Upper Lusatian Railway Committee" was formed in 1836 and the corresponding state treaties between the kingdoms of Prussia and Saxony had been concluded in 1843 , the aforementioned stock corporation with its seat in Dresden received the necessary license on August 22, 1844. The company was obliged to complete the line between Dresden and Görlitz by July 1, 1847 and, if by then no new stock corporation had been found for the construction of the Löbau-Zittau railway , to build a branch line to Zittau. Prussia had asked for the railway to be built across the Saxon border to Görlitz. The starting point of the 102 km stretch was the Silesian station in Dresden-Neustadt, the 1898 to 1901 under the rooming-Leipzig-Dresden railway to Dresden-Neustadt station was rebuilt. Starting from Dresden, the line was put into operation in several stages:

In 1848 the company also took over the management of the Löbau-Zittauer Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft .

The Saxon-Silesian Railway Company offered the state to buy the railway in order to convert the shares into government bonds with better interest rates. As early as February 1, 1851, the Saxon state became the owner of the railway and, with the Dresden – Bodenbach line, placed it under the newly established “Royal Direction of the Saxon-Bohemian and Saxon-Silesian State Railways in Dresden”. The 15 km long section on Prussian territory near Görlitz was transferred to the Prussian state on the basis of the peace treaty of 1866 , but continued to be operated by Saxony.
