aims

The association sees itself politically neutral and, according to its statutes, a. the following goals:

  • promoting the care and maintenance of the native forest,
  • the promotion of forest science,
  • the promotion, organization and implementation of the professional training and further education of its members through lectures, professional written material, excursions at home and abroad as well as by promoting the personal exchange of ideas and promoting education, national and vocational training including student aid,
  • cooperation with other forest associations, organizations and institutions for the promotion of forest issues.

history

The first regional forest association in Saxony was the "Forestry Association of Upper Lusatia" founded in 1842. The Saxon Forest Association was founded on August 15, 1847 . Upon application, the Upper Lusatia Forestry Association was incorporated into the “larger Saxon Forest Association”.

According to its statutes, the purpose of the Saxon Forest Association was the mutual "exchange of experiences, observations and views from the field of forestry and hunting [...], further through joint ventures and attempts [...] to expand forestry knowledge, and [...] ] to promote public spirit. "

The first chairman of the Saxon Forest Association was the director of the Academy for Foresters and Farmers in Tharandt, Carl Heinrich Edmund von Berg .

When it was founded, the association had 103 members. Among them were forest scientists and practitioners such as the Tharandt professors Max Preßler , Friedrich August von Cotta and Emil Adolf Roßäßler, as well as chief forest master Hans Ernst von Manteuffel . At its 25th meeting in 1879, the association already had 612 members.

The German Forest Association was founded in 1899 . At first there was a loose connection between the Saxon and the German Forest Association. In 1921 there was the first joint meeting of the German Forest Association with the Provincial and State Forest Associations. From then on, representative meetings of the main committee of the German Forest Association and the representatives of the independent forest associations in the federal states and provinces took place on a regular basis.

In the 1930s, the political situation in Germany changed ( seizure of power ). The synchronization then took place in August 1933 when the German Forest Association passed new statutes. After that, the regional associations were groups within the German Forest Association , they lost their independence. The Saxon Forest Association was renamed "Deutscher Forstverein Gruppe Sachsen".

After the end of the Second World War , the Soviet military administration in Germany banned all associations and their founding in the Soviet occupation zone . As a result, the Saxon Forest Association and the German Forest Association in Saxony disbanded .

Between 1945 and 1990 there was no independent forest association in the area of the German Democratic Republic . In accordance with the structures at that time, the "German Agricultural Science Society" (DAG) was founded in 1960 with a central forestry commission. The specialist conferences and excursions organized in this way can be viewed as a new approach to a forest association-like activity. In 1971 the DAG was renamed "Agricultural Society of the GDR" (awig).

After the fall of the Wall , in March 1990 the Central Forestry Commission of the awig founded the “Forest Association of the GDR” at a closed meeting in Grillenburg in the Tharandt Forest . V. ". On March 30, 1990, the first official and personal contact between the two German forest associations took place in Oberhof.

On April 17, 1990, the Saxon Forest Association was re-established in Limbach-Oberfrohna. With that there was again an independent forest association in Saxony. Günter Wenk was elected chairman. The forest association of the GDR e. V. dissolved on December 31, 1990.

At its board meeting in Wiesbaden on February 20, 1991, the German Forest Association accepted the Saxon Forest Association and other East German state forest associations .

The Sächsische Forstverein publishes various brochures and books on forest and forest history topics in Saxony.

There has been a close relationship with forestry training in Tharandt since it was founded. Association members actively participate in modules in various courses.

The Saxon Forest Association was significantly involved in the preparation and implementation of the 69th Forest Association Conference 2019 in Dresden and was particularly involved in the excursion program and various specialist seminars. With around 1,100 participants from Germany and parts of Europe, the congress was one of the largest forestry conferences in Europe to date.
