Life

Manteuffel came from a wealthy family. His family actually planned for him to go to university. However, the boy showed a passion for nature at an early age. From 1816 on he attended the Tharandt Forestry Academy . In 1818 he switched to the Augustusburg Forestry Office after graduating , before he passed the chief forester's examination in Tharandt in 1820. After a further practical unit in Colditz, he became assistant to the chief forest master in Schönburg in 1822 , before taking over the office of forest master in Zschopau in 1827 . In 1829/1830, after passing another exam, he was promoted to master forester. In 1844 he was placed directly under the Ministry of Finance. Already during this time he drew attention to himself through relevant publications.

Manteuffel was one of the founders of the Saxon Forest Association in 1847 . From 1852 he was first a member, then chairman of the forestry examination committee and finally settled in Colditz around 1860. In 1872 he celebrated his service anniversary. Shortly afterwards he passed away. On November 5, 1872, the "von Manteuffel scholarship" was launched at the Tharandt University in his name.
