Lists on the subject |
The saw sword also Venetian boarding sword (English Venice boarding sword) is a medieval cutting and thrusting weapon that was used as a boarding weapon.
description
The saw sword is a sword with a straight blade on the back of the blade, which is also called an oriental blade. The cutting edge, which is about 45 cm long, runs strongly jagged from the ricasso to the location and becomes slightly narrower at the location area. The place is shaped into a very thin and sharp point. The handle has only one guard with tarnishing handlebar and short Parierknebeln. Almost all versions have a thumb bow in front of the crossguard, which protects the thumb of the lead hand.
history
The Venetian naval troops introduced the saw sword on their ships around the middle of the 16th century . It was believed that a serrated blade could cause serious injuries if only weakly contacted. All swords of this type were made in the Belluno workshops. The saw sword did not establish itself as an effective weapon and was only in use for a short time.
