Wendelin Boeheim
Wendelin Boeheim (also Böheim) (born September 17, 1832 in Wiener Neustadt , † November 1, 1900 in Vienna ) was an Austrian officer in the Austro-Hungarian army , weapons historian and museum employee.
Life
Boeheim attended the sculpture school of the Vienna Academy and then served as a pioneer officer. From 1859 to 1865 he was a professor at the Theresian Military Academy . In 1878 he became the custodian of the imperial weapons collection and helped found the Art History Museum and the Army History Museum in Vienna .
Böheim was one of the first to take a scientific look at historical weapons. In 1897 he founded today's trade journal Waffen- und Costumekunde as a journal for historical weapons science .
His handbook of weapons science appeared in 1890 and is considered a standard scientific work in the field of medieval weapons science. Less known are his publications, which deal with medieval fashion and biographies. Including his descriptions of flea fur . Further publications appeared in the yearbook of the art history collections of the Most High Imperial House .
In 1961, Böheimgasse in Vienna- Liesing (23rd district) was named after him.
