Sébaco is a municipality in the Matagalpa department in northwest Nicaragua .

Sébaco is located in the west of the Matagalpa department, about 103 kilometers from the capital Managua .

history

Sébaco was founded in 1538. The name of the city comes from the Nahuatl language and means “twisted woman”, an expression for the deity of fertility and agriculture. Since its inception, Sébaco has benefited from its location between the fertile and productive parts of the country and the commercial and economic centers of south-west Nicaragua.

Agriculture

Sébaco is a center of agriculture and the most important place in the Sébaco Valley, which is considered the most fertile region in the country. Most of the country's rice production is handled in Sébaco.

With the CD Sébaco , the city has a first division team in Nicaraguan football.
