Sérgio Rebelo

Sérgio Tavares Rebelo (born October 29, 1959 ) is a Portuguese economist .

Career, research and teaching

Rebelo graduated from the Catholic University of Portugal in 1981 with a degree in economics . He then completed his academic training at the Technical University of Lisbon , where he graduated in 1985 with a Master of Science in Operations Research . He received a Masters of Arts from the University of Rochester in 1985 and a Ph.D. Degree in Economics.

Between 1988 and 1992 Rebelo taught and researched, first as an assistant professor and later as an associate professor at Northwestern University before returning to the University of Rochester. In 1997 he returned to Northwestern University as a full professor, where he taught and researched at the Kellogg School of Management .

Based on his dissertation , Rebelo developed an endogenous growth model known as the AK model in the early 1990s . In the following years he researched and published in particular on business cycles and the relationship between fiscal policy and economic growth .

Rebelo is a Fellow of the Econometric Society , Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, and Research Fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research . Between 1995 and 2001 he was editor of The American Economic Review , the periodical of the American Economic Association .
