Sönke C. Weiss

Sönke C. Weiss (* 1967 ) is a German journalist, filmmaker and photographer. The journalist gained ten years of professional experience as a correspondent and reporter for German newspapers in France, the Balkans, Africa and Asia. Weiss works as a correspondent for the Protestant Broadcasting Service Baden and from 2002 to 2008 for World Vision Germany . From 2003 to 2004 he traveled through southern Africa as Communications Manager. He reported on the causes of the local hunger crisis and landmines as well as HIV. He traveled to almost all African countries. Since 2005 he has also been working as a photo and film artist.

In 2006 Weiss published his book Das Mädchen und der Krieg. In 2007, the play Butterflies of Uganda followed, for which he was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. In 2012 he published the sequel to "Das Mädchen und der Krieg" under the title "Hope - the second life of the former child soldier Christine Hope. His second play BLACK MATERIAL premiered at the Berlin Africa Festival 2012. He presented photo exhibitions on the effects of HIVtogether. He is currently making his first feature film in Uganda, the Congo and South Sudan: How I found Kony. He is married to the French journalist Mathilde Giard and has one daughter. Sönke C. Weiss has been divorced since 2016 and lives in the Ruhr area. Sönke C. Weiss has been working on projects with the artist Eva-Maria Horstick since 2015, including non-profit work in the field of photography.
