Søgne was a municipality in the province of Vest-Agder in Norway . It included several coastal settlements. The main town was the center of the commune, Tangvall. As part of the local government reform in Norway , Søgne and Songdalen were incorporated into Kristiansand on January 1, 2020 .

geography

Søgne was west of the city of Kristiansand on the archipelago of southern Norway. Your name of the municipality was derived from the Sygna River (also Søgneelva ).

11,403 inhabitants lived in an area of ​​148 km² (as of January 1, 2019). The municipality number was 1018. The last mayor was Astrid Margrethe Hilde ( Ap ).

history

The offshore island of Helgøya was converted into a fortress by the German occupying forces after 1942 . Equipped with heavy artillery , automatic cannons and mortars , the fort secured the entrance to the port of Kristiansand and is often referred to as the "Norwegian Gibraltar ".
