Südosteuropa is a specialist journal of the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Research , the successor to the Southeast Institute (until 2007 in Munich , since then in Regensburg ). The journal Wissenschaftlicher Dienst Südosteuropa ( Scientific Service for Southeastern Europe) was published as its predecessor in 1952 , and its year census was adopted. The magazine has had its current name since the year of 31.1982. It is published by Oldenbourg Wissenschaftsverlag . Sometimes the spelling Southeast Europe is also used.

The frequency of publication was originally bimonthly, then monthly up to year 52 (2003). A year 2004 has not appeared, since the year 53 (2005) it has been published quarterly.

The main content of the magazine is articles on current political and social developments in the countries of Southeast Europe . There is also a documentation section and reviews of thematically relevant books. Since 2014, the articles have only been published in English.
