Suleyman Ələsgərov

Süleyman oğlu Əyyub Ələsgərov (also Süleyman Äläsgärov , Russian Сулейман Эйюб оглы Алескеров ; * 22 February 1924 in Shusha , Azerbaijan SSR , Soviet Union ; † 22. January 2000 ) was an Azerbaijani composer , conductor and music educator .

Life

Süleyman Ələsgərov studied composition at the Azerbaijani State Conservatory with Boris Isaakowitsch Seidman (1908–1981) and graduated in 1948. His music was heard beyond the borders of Azerbaijan. It was performed in many cities of the Soviet Union such as Moscow , Leningrad , Tashkent and Tbilisi , but also in Bulgaria and Turkey . The operetta Ulduz has been translated into eleven languages. Since 1943 he was a member of the Association of Azerbaijani Composers and later also a member of its board. From 1949 to 1965 he was director of the music technology center named after Asəf Zeynallı in Baku, head of the art department of the Ministry of Culture, conductor and artistic director of the folk instrument orchestra of the Azerbaijani television and radio. He was director and chief conductor of the Musical Comedy Theater in Baku and head of the Department of Folk Instruments and director of the branch of the Baku Music Academy in Shusha. In 1967 he was the winner of the Üzeyir Hacıbəyov Prize of the Azerbaijani SSR and in 1974 he was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR. On February 21, 1999 he was awarded the Şöhrət Order .

Works (selection)

Süleyman Ələsgərov wrote eleven operettas - gülü Məhəbbət, Ulduz , Özümüz bilərik , Milyonçunun dilənçi oğlu , Sevindik Qız axtarır , Həmişəxanım and Hərənin öz ulduzu - the operas Bahadur və Sona and solgun çiçəklər and symphonic mugham Bayati-Siraz. He also wrote the two symphonies Gənclik [youth] and Vətən , poems, cantatas, concertos for tar and folk instrument orchestra, a double concerto for violoncello, piano and orchestra, the rhapsody Poema for Kanun , over 200 songs and romances such as Vətənimdir , Yada düşdü and Sərvi -xuramanım mənim as well as Tarantella for tar and piano. He wrote other chamber music and vocal works.

As early as 1942 he wrote the song Gözlə məni [Wait for me]. It uses a text by the poet Şirzad Əliyev, who died in the war. The performance of the song at a festive event in Tbilisi in 1944 gave the song a certain popularity and also made the name Ələsgərovs known.

While studying composition, he already composed various works. So in 1943 a suite for symphony orchestra, in 1944 Simfonik poema in memory of the hero of the Soviet Union Hasi Aslanow and in 1945 a festival overture.
