The Süwag Energy Ltd is a regional energy supply and energy services company, which is majority-owned by E.ON owned subsidiary Innogy is. The company's headquarters are in Frankfurt am Main. The supply area of Süwag and its subsidiaries spanning almost 5,200 square kilometers is spread across regions in the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate.
history
The company was created in June 2001 through the merger of Kraftwerk Altwürttemberg AG (KAWAG), Überlandwerk Achern, Kraftversorgung Rhein-Wied AG, Elektrizitätswerk Bad Homburg, Rheingau Elektrizitätswerke GmbH and Main-Kraftwerke AG (MKW). 77.6% of the shares were held by what was then RWE ; the rest of the capital is in the hands of 15 municipal owners and free shareholders.
With the restructuring of RWE and the establishment of Innogy SE in 2016, a. the stakes in subsidiaries, including Süwag, were transferred from RWE to innogy. Innogy has held 77.6% of the shares in Süwag since then.

Süwag Energie AG is the parent company for three wholly owned subsidiaries: Süwag Vertrieb AG & Co. KG, Süwag Green Energies and Water GmbH and the distribution network operator Syna GmbH . In addition, Süwag Energie AG holds shares in other companies outside the Süwag Group.
Shareholders
The shareholding structure of Süwag Energie AG is made up as follows:
- innogy Beteiligungsholding GmbH: 77.58%
- Municipal shareholders: 22.30%
- Free shareholders: 0.12%
Due to the sale of innogy to E.ON , Stadtwerke Frankfurt, as a shareholder in Süwag, is trying to acquire RWE's previous shares in Süwag based on a change of control clause in the consortium agreement from 2001 (see history ) (as of 2019).
Hydropower plants
Süwag operates a total of 16 run-of-river power plants, mainly on the Lahn (with Wied ), also on the Neckar ( Pleidelsheim hydropower plant with 4.4 MW) and on the Kinzig, as well as small power plants on tributaries. With a total output of a good 18 megawatts (MW), around 97 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity are generated per year (thus 5000 full load hours ) with which 27,000 households can be supplied.
