Sławomir Miklaszewski

Sławomir Miklaszewski (born November 11, 1874 in Augustów , † January 5, 1949 in Starachowice ) was a Polish soil scientist . He was a professor at the Polytechnic in Warsaw .

Life

Miklaszewski studied at the University of Warsaw (candidate graduation 1899). He set up a soil science department at the Museum of Industry and Commerce and taught from 1906 to 1919 at what is now the Agricultural University in Warsaw. In 1919 he became a professor at the Polytechnic.

He made a 1: 1,500,000 soil map of Poland (1909) and one of Lithuania.

He has also worked as a soil scientist in Scandinavia, Hungary, Italy, Spain and North Africa (Sahara). Miklaszewski was an internationally renowned soil scientist and a member of the main committee of the International Soil Science Society (IBG), which he helped to found. In 1948 he was honorary chairman of the International Soil Science Congress in Amsterdam.

He introduced the term Rendzina into the international soil science nomenclature.
