ST Gordon (born April 18, 1959 in Las Vegas , Nevada , USA ) is a former American cruiserweight boxer and world champion of the WBC .

Career

Gordon was barely 18 when he made his professional debut in 1977 and lost over 8 rounds on points to Alvaro Lopez. He won his next seven fights (six of them by classic knockout ). The meanwhile 18-year-old standard boom lost his ninth fight controversially due to a split point decision. In 1978 he suffered a total of three defeats, including a disqualification in round 4 against heavyweight Gerry Cooney .

On June 6, 1979 he secured against Earl Tripp (record 10-2-0), to whom he had lost 8 months earlier, the USA Nevada State Title . In the following year he beat Eric Sedillo (record 13-1-0-) and Niua Tofaeono (record 9-0-0) each by knockout and won the vacant North American championship belt against Ivy Brown also by knockout In 1981 he also won the vacant USA California State Title .

On June 27, 1982 he went to Highland Heights , Ohio , USA against the reigning Puerto Rican WBC world champion Carlos De León (record 32-2-0-) in a fight scheduled for 15 rounds and won by technical knockout in the 2nd round and thereby secured the belt. He defended that title against Jesse Burnett in February of the following year.

Gordon rose to the heavyweight division, in the premier class, and boxed there against the eventual WBC world champion Trevor Berbick . This non-title contest took place in Las Vegas , Nevada in late May 1983 . Gordon decided this 10-round battle completely surprising on points for himself.

A good six weeks later he met Carlos De León again in his old weight class , the cruiserweight division. As in their first fight, it was also about the WBC world championship belt. De León took revenge and defeated Gordon clearly and unanimously on points. After this defeat, Gordon ended his career.

comeback

After a good four years of inactivity, Gordon made his comeback. But without success, because his opponent Dwain Bonds, who was generally considered to be a build-up opponent at best, beat him in the first round with a technical knockout.
