The SAC Uto is a Zurich section of the Swiss Alpine Club and with 9,529 members (as of January 2020) is the largest section of the Swiss Alpine Club and one of the largest sports clubs in Switzerland . It was founded on October 23, 1863 and has its headquarters in Zurich, the name "Uto" is an old name of Zurich's local mountain, the Uetliberg .
Club magazine
The UTO is the oldest association magazine of the Swiss Alpine Club and thus played a pioneering role. Its layout and the number of issues per year have changed again and again over the course of the almost 100 years of its publication, the current edition (No. 4/2019) is 7500 copies.
Huts
The Uto section operates seven SAC huts , these offer simple accommodation for mountaineers, climbers, hikers, nature lovers and, increasingly, for families with children and for mountain bikers.

Uto hut challenge
The Uto Hut Challenge is a competition that started on September 1, 2019 and runs until October 20, 2020.
Anyone who manages to visit all seven Uto huts during these 14 months (with or without overnight stay) and documents these hut visits via the Peakhunter online summit book or a stamp card will receive on the date of the entry:
- A Uto hut challenge drink at the 7th hut
- The overnight stay in the 7th hut is free (excluding food and drinks).
But as soon as they visit six huts, hut visitors can take part in a raffle for attractive prizes.
