SCANSCOT Shipping Services (Deutschland) GmbH was a German shipping company that existed from 1995 to 2010 and was mainly active in the field of heavy cargo . Most recently she had a fleet of seven own and two chartered multi-purpose / heavy lift ships, with the most recently built ships having a lifting capacity of 700 t.

description

The shipping company was founded in Hamburg in 1995 as a subsidiary of the Finnish Thominvest . It began with the construction of four RoRo / LoLo multi-purpose heavy cargo freighters, which were built at the Peene shipyard in Wolgast . Over the years, the shipping company has had 13 ships of this type built at the Hegemann Group's shipyards . In addition to the company's own ships, ships have been chartered for both short and long term. The ships were used in tramping .

insolvency

After the ships that had only recently been delivered by the Peene shipyard could no longer be fully repaid and KfW, as the financing bank, refused to agree to a restructuring plan, the shipping company had to file for bankruptcy in October 2010 . In the course of this, one ship was foreclosed (Scan Brasil), four ships went to Brise Schiffahrt in Hamburg. The two new buildings were arrested in Singapore , their fate is uncertain.

The ships

All ships, with the exception of one purchased, were built in the shipyards of the Hegemann Group ( Peene shipyard and Roland shipyard ). As RoRo / LoLo ships, they can take over cargo using the cranes as well as via a stern ramp installed aft . The ships have pontoon hatch covers both as weather decks and tween deck covers .

The first ship, the Scan Polaris , received two 100-ton cranes, as did the three following. All of the shipping company's ships received cranes from Liebherr . The two following, 26 meter longer ships ( Scan Arctic and Scan Bothnia ) also received two 100 t cranes. The four following ships received 150-tonne cranes. The last ship, the Scan Brasil , received 240-tonne cranes.

In 2007, four ships were ordered from the Hegemann shipyards, with options for two more. These ships represent a further development of the ones built before. They are 141 instead of 126 meters long and have two 350 t cranes. As a special feature, these cranes can also be driven on top. This has the advantage that it is also possible to transport oversized loads. They also have a three-way height-adjustable intermediate deck, which was not the case with the previous buildings.

In the course of the economic crisis, only two ships of this type were built instead of the four ordered. The last one was delivered in June 2010.

drive

All ships received main engines from MAN B&W or MAN Diesel SE . Because of the stern ramp, the engine room had to be kept low. Therefore, instead of series machines, V machines were used. For the ships Scan Polaris to Scan Brasil this is the MAN B + W 12 V 32/40 with an output of 5760 kW. The Scan Britania and Scan Espana received the MAN 16 V 32/40 with an output of 7680 kW. All main engines are operated with heavy oil , the auxiliary diesel with gas oil . At sea, the ships are powered by a wave generator .
