SE Tylose Germany

In Germany the group is represented by SE Tylose .

The company initially emerged from a spin-off from the Swiss Clariant .

The cellulose ether business in the Kalle-Albert industrial park in Wiesbaden, which had existed at this location since 1935, was taken over by Shin-Etsu in 2004 for a purchase price of 241 million euros.

The acquisition and expansion in Germany made the Shin-Etsu group one of the most important cellulose ether manufacturers in the world. The cellulose ether division of the chemical company is one of the market leaders among the methyl cellulose manufacturers (MC) and a major player in the market for hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) and other chemical specialties based on the renewable raw material "cellulose".

The German subsidiary SE Tylose produces and markets various water-soluble cellulose ethers under the original Kalle brand names Tylose® and Tylopur®. The processing industry is supplied with appropriate auxiliary materials (building materials and paint industry, chemical industry, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry as well as food industry).

The takeover doubled Shin-Etsu's sales of cellulose ether products. The capacity was expanded by 100 million euros by 2006. This included 80 million euros for the new production facility. An additional 30 million euros was invested by the operator of the industrial park for the associated infrastructure, such as the expansion of the energy supply and the biological wastewater treatment plant.

In 2009 the company increased its production facilities by a further 10,000 tons per year (20%) and thus set up a second location for the production of pharmaceutical excipients in Europe. This construction was accelerated by an explosion and the subsequent fire in the production facilities in Naoetsu (City of Jōetsu ) on March 20, 2007.

The etymology of the brand name "Tylose" can be traced back to the "ty" of ethyl, methyl etc. as well as the ending "lose" of cellulose. SE Tylose employed 500 people in 2007.
