The sports community 1919 Limburgerhof is a soccer club from Limburgerhof in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis . It was founded in 1919.

history

In the early days of SV 1919 Friedensau (1919–1939)

The first efforts to found a football club in Limburgerhof go back to 1911. This year the SV Phönix was brought into being, which joined the TG 04 Limburgerhof a year later. Due to the effects of the First World War from 1914 to 1918, club life in Germany was idle during this time.

The history of today's association began in May 1919 with the establishment of SV 1919 Friedensau under the chairmanship of Anton Moser. Today's Limburgerhof community was only founded on January 1, 1930.

The 1st team rose to the B-class in 1920 as master champions of the C-class and again played as champions for promotion to the A-class in 1921. Since there was no own sports ground, the games were held in Neuhofen until 1920. Then you could inaugurate the self-created sports field at the former railway pond for the first time. After the missed promotion in 1923–1926, the active belonged to the A-class, but then had to relegate to the B-class. The membership in 1926 showed over 200 members. The affiliation to the B-class lasted until 1931, when the promotion to the A-class was made. During this time Otto Nessel was chairman.

In 1937 the forced merger between TG 04 and SV 1919 Friedensau takes place under the leadership of the NSDAP-appointed teacher Katzenbach, to whom the boards of the two clubs Nessel (SV 1919) and Hermann (TG 04) were assigned. The following years are marked by the effects of the Second World War .

Post-war period and revival of club life (1946–1956)

Sports could only be resumed after the end of the war in 1946. Under the leadership of the first chairman Heinrich Schwöbel, appointed by the French occupying powers , a new sports club, the SV Schwarz-Rot Limburgerhof, was brought into being.

With the support of the French interim administration, the new sports field at the cemetery was built, for which GEWOGE made the area available on loan. In the same year the club was renamed Sportverein Limburgerhof. Karl Schapp took over the chairmanship. The club colors were determined: white jersey, black pants.

In 1951 the classes were reassigned, so the SV had to play in the B class. 1952 the promotion to the A-class middle was accomplished. In 1954, Limburg footballers created the new sports field on Hermann-Löns-Weg, the construction of the indoor facility and the tennis courts. In 1956 the club became champions in the middle A-class.

From bankruptcy to the new SG Limburgerhof (1956–1964)

On May 6, 1956, the association had to file for bankruptcy. The name was changed to ASV. Oskar Brendel's successor as chairman of the association was initially Edmund Butsch, and in 1957 Georg Spitznagel. On May 6, 1956, the club was again champions of the A-class middle with a 4-0 win against Rödersheim . Werner Lohr, who also acted as the coach of the national volleyball team , took over the management of the active soccer team at ASV Limburgerhof. In 1963 the ASV'ler were able to defeat the cup champions of the group north, the VfR Frankenthal with 2-1 and thus qualified for the promotion round to the 2nd amateur league. There the team just failed and thus remained in the A-class middle.

In 1951 and when TG 04 was re-established on August 28, 1953, many club members left the SV. The second football club in Limburgerhof, called VfR Limburgerhof, played in the C-class during this time. The chairman of this association was Helmut Hanß. It turned out that Limburgerhof (then approx. 5000 inhabitants) was not big enough for two football clubs. After lengthy debates, the merger of the two clubs was announced on March 6, 1964 .

The new club was named SG 1919 Limburgerhof eV, where the abbreviation SG stands for sports community. SG 1919 Limburgerhof emerged from the founding association SV 1919 Friedensau. The chairmanship of the new association was taken over by the previous board member of ASV Limburgerhof, Georg Spitznagel. The 1st team played in the A-class middle.

From the A-Class to the DFB-Pokal (1964–1984)

A stroke of luck in the club's history was the engagement of Manfred Schönholz as the active coach. In the era of this successful trainer there were many great victories for SG Limburgerhof.

In the 1980 Südwestpokal, SG Limburgerhof lost to FSV Mainz 05 in the final . Well-known teams had been defeated by then: VfR Frankenthal 3-2, TSV Lingenfeld 2-1, Eintracht Bad Kreuznach 3-0, VfR Baumholder 3-0 and in the semifinals SG Pirmasens 7-1. In the final, which took place in Gimbsheim on June 13, 1980 , the Mainz team lost 2-1. The goals were scored 1-0 by Magura (45th), 1: 1 Bopp (48th) and 1: 2 Bopp (51st).

In the first round of the DFB Cup 1980/81 , SG Limburgerhof was drawn from the then second division FC Homburg . Limburgerhof lost the game 3-0.

In the coming football season, the SG Limburgerhof could keep up in the district league quite well. In 1981 coach Schönholz resigned from his position.

The free fall into the B-Class (1984–1994)

After three years of the district league, several relegations followed, which ended in the B-Class Speyer. Between 1986 and 1988 the chairmen changed very quickly. The association was on the verge of dissolution or bankruptcy.

In the darkest hour, the honorary chairman Helmut Hanß stepped into the breach and took over the management of the club, which he later placed in the hands of Manfred Wüchner. During this time, the active team picked up again and a second team could even be registered for the game.

present

In 2017 it was promoted back to the A-Class. The first team is currently playing in the A-Class Rhein-Mittelhaardt Ost.
