SICAD / open (abbreviation for Si emens C omputer A ided D esign ) is professional GIS software. It has been developed by Siemens since 1979 and primarily in the municipal area for the visual part of the real estate cadastre ( ALK ) including the city map , tree cadastre , statistics ( small-scale structure ), urban planning ( B-plan , zoning plan , landscape plan ) as well as in the area of supply and Disposal (gas, electricity, water, district heating) is used.

SICAD / open is an open system, executable on Unix , Linux and Windows operating systems. Relational database systems (e.g. Oracle or Informix ) are used to manage the geodata . The clients communicate with the servers via TCP / IP .

The product has been marketed by the independent company SICAD GEOMATICS since 1998. The SICAD Geomatics GmbH & Co. oHG , then a 100-percent subsidiary of Siemens Business Services in Munich , was founded in 2002 by the AED Graphics AG in Bonn taken that since under the name of AED-SICAD GmbH operates.

AED-SICAD decided early on to create a completely new product line based on Esri- ArcGIS technology for the AdV standard ALKIS ( official real estate cadastre information system). This is why the SICAD / open system is no longer being developed. There were only error corrections at longer intervals, most recently at the end of 2007 the correction versions SICAD / open 7.1A20 for Windows and SICAD / open 7.1A25 for UNIX platforms. These versions were still in use at many municipalities for a long time, but have now been replaced almost everywhere by the new 3A product line from AED-SICAD.
