SIDstation
The SIDstation is a MIDI controllable synthesizer based on the sound chip of the Commodore 64 , the MOS6581 (SID). With the SIDstation, the well-known original sound of the C64 can be used in your own compositions without having to own or operate a C64. The SIDstation was manufactured from 1998 by the Swedish company Elektron .
The sound of Kernkraft 400, which is characteristic of old video games, helped Zombie Nation achieve a resounding success. The intensive use of a SIDstation is the special characteristic of the metal band Machinae Supremacy , which also plays many remixes of old C-64 game tunes in a hard rock version. Other pop greats who use the SIDstation to generate their C-64 sound include Madonna , Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails , Timbaland , Daft Punk , The Prodigy , Depeche Mode , Linkin Park , Robyn and David Guetta .
