The Swedish diesel locomotives of the SJ V5 series were bought by the Swedish state railways Statens Järnvägar (SJ) from 1975 to 1978 from the German Henschel locomotive factory .
history
The purchase of the series was a continuation of the procurement of the SJ V4 series with now reduced performance. The L4rsU2 gearbox came from Voith . The plans were to replace the SJ V3 from the 1950s with the two series . Therefore, the two locomotive types had a similar appearance, only the V 5 had a more angular shape. They were equipped with multiple controls, with which a maximum of three locomotives can be operated from one driver's cab.
SJ began repainting the locomotives from orange to blue during the 1990s. They were also retrofitted with radio remote control .
The V5 150 and V5 152 were later given a GM V149 diesel engine with 440 kW.
GC V5
After SJ was split up in 2001, all locomotives went to the Green Cargo freight division . They are listed there under the series designation GC V5 with the same company numbers.
NRFAB V5
In 2015, the V5 152–157, 164, 165, 168, 171, 172, 175, 180 and 185 were sold to the leasing company Nordic Re-Finance AB, where they were given the name NRFAB V5 with the same serial number.
