The Swedish SJ V4 series diesel locomotives were bought by the Swedish State Railways Statens Järnvägar (SJ) in 1972 and 1973 by the German locomotive factory Henschel & Sohn . They were procured at the same time as the two-axle SJ Z66 series , which was built with the same engine at Kalmar Verkstad . The three-axle locomotive was also to be built in Kalmar . The closure of the plant, which was planned at that time, but not carried out until much later, was the reason to award the contract to Germany.

history

The SJ V4s built in Germany were equipped with a turbocharger and a multiple control system with which a maximum of three locomotives can be operated from one driver's cab. The L4rsU2 gearbox came from Voith . In the 1990s, the locomotives were retrofitted with radio remote control .

operation area

After delivery, the locomotives were stationed in Skåne and used from Malmö , Helsingborg and Ystad . The locomotives were later used in other parts of Sweden.

GC V4

After SJ was split up in 2001, all locomotives went to the Green Cargo freight division . They were carried there under the series designation GC V4 with the same company numbers.

Further whereabouts

Green Cargo started selling the locomotives in 2002 and for a number of years no longer had a V4 in stock.

V4 146 went to EuroMaint in 2002 and V4 143 to Assi-Domän AB in Frövifors in the same year . This was given to Korsnäs Frövi AB in 2007 . V4 148 was sold to Rail Combi AB and from there also went to Korsnäs Frövi AB in 2007 .

In 2003 V4 142 was sold to Falköpings Terminal AB . The locomotive was operated there under the designation FT V4 142 . In 2005 it was resold to Tågfrakt AB under the new company number TAB V4 142 .

In 2004, V4 144 , V4 147 and V4 149 were sold to GESFA Srl in Bari , Italy .

TGOJ V4

The V4 140 , V4 141 and V4 145 locomotives were sold to TGOJ Trafik in 2005 , which had been a subsidiary of Green Cargo since 1999. With the integration of TGOJ into Green Cargo on January 1, 2011, these locomotives were returned to Green Cargo's inventory.
