The rail tractors of the series SJ Z66 were from 1971 by Statens Järnvägar in Sweden used. The small locomotives manufactured by Kalmar Verkstad were used for smaller transport tasks and for shunting on sidings and in stations.

history

In 1969, SJ obtained offers for two- and three-axle locomotives from various Swedish and foreign manufacturers. The first choice fell on the German company Gmeinder , but for reasons of labor market policy the government decided that the Swedish company Kalmar Verkstad (KVAB) should receive the contract.

KVAB cooperated with Henschel & Sohn in Germany and it was decided to manufacture the two-axle locomotives in Sweden and the three-axle locomotives in Germany. The two-axle locomotives were given the series designation Z66 and were delivered from 1971–1973. The three-axle variant was given the series designation V4 .

Technical specifications

The Z66 was structurally larger than earlier locomotives, but the engine output was similar to the Z65 . When the first locomotive was weighed, it turned out to be a few tons heavier than expected. KVAB had to reduce the weight of the following locomotives.

The top speed was 41 or 69 km / h, depending on which gearbox was used. The locomotives received the new orange color scheme that SJ introduced in the early 1970s.

Z66 591–605 were equipped with multiple traction equipment, with which up to three locomotives could be driven. Usually the locomotives were used individually.

NSB Gods Skd 226

At the end of the 1990s, SJ's demand for shunting locomotives had declined. Norges Statsbaner (NSB) received two Z66s for shunting in Oslo on a trial basis , as the older Di 2 series had to be replaced. In 1999 NSB and SJ agreed to sell 15 locomotives to Norway. There the series was given the designation Skd 226 from July 27, 2000 and a color scheme in dark gray with yellow decor. The locomotives were taken over by NSB Gods until 2001.

The new series designation Skd 226 01-15 followed in the order SJ Z66 591, 592, 594, 595, 597, 598, 596, 603, 604, 605, 607, 608, 610, 611 and 606.
