history

In 2001 the Royal Bank of Scotland took over the leasing provider International Aviation Management Group, which was then renamed Lombard Aviation Capital.

The company was already managing 100 aircraft in 2003, and in 2008 there were a total of 300 of its own aircraft. Today the fleet consists of 670 aircraft.

In 2004 the name was changed to RBS Aviation Capital.

In 2012, RBS Aviation Capital was taken over by a Japanese consortium consisting of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and Sumitomo Corporation for US $ 7.3 billion and was given its current name.

SMBC Aviation Capital has appeared in public several times as a buyer of large aircraft orders. An order for 115 Airbus A320s was placed at the Farnborough International Airshow in 2014 , and in the same year the company ordered 80 Boeing 737MAXs .
