As TGV Iris 320 , the French state railway referred SNCF one used as a test vehicle TGV - train set . The ten-car multiple unit is used in particular for regular inspection of the French high-speed lines . It runs at speeds of up to 320 km / h and therefore bears his name.

construction

The multiple unit is planned to consist of two power cars and eight intermediate cars of the TGV Réseau .

The first intermediate car corresponds to the so-called Mélusine , a TGV measuring car used since 1988. Control systems are housed in the second and third car . The fourth and fifth cars accommodate a bar and reception rooms for guests. The three other cars accommodate ten first class compartments and a kitchen; the establishment of a lounge area for a dozen people is planned. In the train also has a shower installed.

Around 150 sensors and around 20 cameras are installed on the multiple unit. The train team consists of two train drivers and seven engineers and technicians.

history

Since 1988, the SNCF has been using the Mélusine , a measuring car that was added to regular TGV trains, for measuring runs on the high-speed lines . In 2002 the decision was made to develop a measuring train for high-speed traffic that should be able to be used for measuring runs without affecting the other traffic.

In 2003 the TGV Réseau unit 4530 was taken out of regular service and received the necessary changes in the Hellemmes depot by 2006.

business

The vehicle is used alternately on a weekly basis on conventional and high-speed routes. Since the maximum speed of the vehicle of 320 km / h corresponds to the maximum speed of the French high-speed lines, the multiple unit can carry out measurement runs while the TGV is in operation, without slowing down other traffic. In addition to the French network, the Belgian network can also be used.

Among other things, the track position, the mutual influence of track and vehicle, the signal systems, the continuity of the power supply and the pressure conditions at train encounters and in tunnels are measured.

The measuring devices are located at both ends of the train and in the middle of the multiple unit. The data obtained is evaluated on the train in real time. Disturbances on the route can be localized with an accuracy of five meters.
