The association was founded in 1920. In 1931 the club's own sports field in Schachen was inaugurated . In 1935 and 1941 the club was promoted to the 3rd division . In 1947, the Lyss sports club rose to the then fourth-class 2nd league , in which the club remained until 1951. 1955 succeeded in rising again in this. 1969 Lyss failed in the promotion games to the first division . In 1972, the club of the Cantonal Bernese football championship, but failed like three years earlier in the promotion games to rise to the first division. Even in 1978, the promotion games were achieved, but the promotion missed. In 1982 Lyss was relegated to the 3rd division, but was able to celebrate the rise again one season later. Also in 1985 the club took part unsuccessfully in the promotion games to the first division.

In the 1986 Swiss Cup , Lyss reached the third main round, which was lost 3-0 against Aarau. In 1987 the club again reached the first league and could this win in the season 1987/88, so Lyss to the rise of games to National League B participated. In 2000 the club was relegated to the 2nd division, and a return to the 1st division was again successful in 2007, but after this season Lyss was relegated to the 2nd division again.

After two relegations in a row (voluntarily from the 2nd league interregional to the 2nd regional league and athletically from the 2nd league to the 3rd league), the Lyss team aimed for a renewed promotion to the second league.

The 2017/18 season was decidedly in first place and won the first leg of the promotion games away against FC Aurore Biel with 0-2. After 90 minutes, as well as after 120 minutes in the second leg in Lyss, it was 0: 2 for Bieler. Thus, the promoted team had to clarify on penalties. After every 5 shots it was 4: 4 on penalties. The sixth penalty was converted by the Aurorers, the Lysser awarded and thus failed in the penalty shootout of the promotion games.

After the 2018/19 season, the contract with coach Patrik Schüpbach will not be extended regionally despite the successful promotion to the 2nd division. He will be replaced as head coach David Meister together with his assistant coach Markus Weidmann.
