The SV St. Tönis (officially: Spielverein 1911 eV St. Tönis ) is a sports club from Tönisvorst in the Viersen district . The first team played for a year in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

The game club started in 1947 in the district class. After a runner-up in 1948 behind Linner SV , a year later he was promoted to the state league , at the time the highest amateur league on the Lower Rhine. Despite a 9-0 victory over GSV Moers , it wasn't enough for the team to keep up. In 1953 and 1956, the team was runner-up in the district class behind Hülser FC and TSV Kaldenkirchen . With the introduction of the Niederrhein Association League, the runner-up in 1956 was enough for promotion to the state league, where St. Tönisers reached their sporting zenith with fourth place in 1958.

In 1962, the game club was relegated to the district class again, but managed to rise again two years later. After two years of the regional league, it went down again in 1966 to the district class, before another promotion to the regional league succeeded four years later. This time the game club lasted until 1973, before relegation followed after playoffs against TSV Eller 04 and VfB Speldorf . It was followed by many years in the district league before the club has been in the district league A since relegation in 2012.
