The Trichomonadida ( old Greek thrix 'hair', monas 'unit') are an order of the Parabasalia.

They are 5 to 25 µm long, oval protozoa with a nucleus and an axis rod ( axostyle ) made up of thousands of microtubules . The collection of large dictyosomes is called the parabasal body. Instead of mitochondria , the hydrogenosomes are used to generate energy. Several flagella are often formed. There is no cytostome and no peroxisomes .

Trichomonadida are microaerophilic anaerobes . They multiply by simply dividing them into two parts. True cysts do not form, but some species such as Tritrichomonas muris do form pseudocysts.
