Saúl Vera (born October 2, 1959 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan mandolin and bandola player.

Life

Vera was already interested in the traditional string instruments of his homeland in his childhood and played the cuatro as well as the mandolin . From 1976 he learned to play the Bandola Llanera , one of the vihuela instruments from the lute family .

In 1986 Vera founded the group Saúl Vera y Su Ensamble , with whom he recorded a number of albums with Venezuelan folk music from 1989. In addition to appearing in Venezuela, the group has made concert tours through Japan, Cuba, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Brazil, England, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. Vera has appeared as a soloist with musicians such as Chico Buarque , Djavan , Paco de Lucía , Ray Barreto , Gilberto Gil and Michel Petrucciani . He also made recordings with María Teresa Chacín , Iván Pérez Rossi , Aquiles Báez , Alberto Naranjo , Franco de Vita , Soledad Bravo , Sergio Pérez , Yordano , Símon Díaz and others.

Vera also wrote the textbook Metodo Para El Aprendisaje De La Bandola Llanera and is active as a composer. In 2000, his Concierto para Bandola Llanera y Orquesta premiered in Caracas .
