Saalthal age

Saalthal-Alter , as a district of the village of Goßwitz , municipality of Unterwellenborn , is now a resort .

history

In 1555 the first report of a mill "Saalthal" was made. This was near the village of Presswitz . The village of Saalthal, which was emerging near the mill, had only a very small amount of agricultural land on a steep slope. The place came to the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg , Amt Roda. The name probably comes from a Sorbian name for a place of worship - the hall altar.

The mill was sold to Michael Grosch in 1848 and has been known as "Grosch's Mühle" since then. In 1937 the mill was demolished because Saalthal had to be flooded later. The Grosch family then moved to Krölpa . Some families moved outside of the storage area and built their new homesteads there .

Today only the three farmsteads at the entrance to the village remind of the flooded and destroyed houses. There is a campsite at the Hohenwarte reservoir .
